10D9N in Taiwan under $1,800
Taiwan is an amazing country where compassionate people dwells. It is also a very safe and clean country. We went as a group of 3 and planned our trip 2–3 months in advance. It was an amazing trip and here am I penning it down to keep them as memories! Hopefully this can help you as well if you are considering to make a trip there.
When looking out for air tickets …
Accept the fact that you can never get the cheapest cheapest ticket, just set a budget and keep looking out for offers from Skyscanner or subscribe to the airlines newsletter. We managed to secure a return ticket with Jetstar of around $230 from Singapore to Taipei with 20kg baggage to, and 70kg baggage return. It was a steal! with some bank credit card promotion.
Before the trip …
Plan and plan, dont go there freestyle because you will be wasting time thinking where to go and might have missed out some hotspots as they may be just along the way. Use Google Map, Google Docs, or Sygic Travel. Google Map allows you to set labels and starring the locations you want to go making searching easy.
Where to stay?
Depending on your combination? Taiwan has many AirBnbs all around the major cities, wouldnt be hard to get if you book them in advance. We spent all our 9 nights in AirBnb and here’s a summary of where we stayed :
1st Night : 逢甲 ($23.50 per pax)
2nd Night : 台中 ($25 per pax)
3rd Night : 台南市 ($30.70 per pax)
4th Night : 高雄 ($23 per pax)
5th Night : 池上 ($28.33 per pax)
6th Night : 羅東 ($26.60 per pax)
7th Night : 瑞芳 ($28.30 per pax)
8th-9th Night : Taipei ($62 per pax)
Taiwan transport system is really good, you can take Taiwan Rails to do inter-city commuting via this website. Book train tickets early to secure some good seats. In some places its better to book a car for yourself the whole day, but its slightly more expensive. A day of booking a driver + a car can cost about $100 to $300 depending on the distance travelled, number of hours and the places that you are visiting. You can drop me a message for some recommendations and I am more than happy to refer you some :). Use apps like Taipei Commuter to check bus timing. All these of course require a stable wifi, I recommend this 4G Pocket Wifi, it has very good battery life, but still need a mobile charger though so you can have Wifi Connection anywhere 24/7. Its unlimited data and only costs us $45 SGD for 10 days.

Some ending Tips
- Most Airbnbs have basic toiletries, so you dont have to bring them.
- Report to the airport latest 1 hour before check-in, best is just stick to the 2 hour timing before your departure time, budget airline wont allow any last minutes.
- Get a local sim card if you feel the need to contact locals.
- Get a driver + taxi unless you are confident in driving up mountains or you are confident with the public transport timings.
- Try all modes of transport for maximum fun!
- Try as many local food as possible and dont eat Mcdonalds everyday :P
- Share food with your friends to try as many kinds of food as possible.
- Set a budget of less than 100 NT per food to enjoy more varieties of food!
- Last but not least, safety and health is most important, get sufficient rest and hydrate often regardless of season.
